The Sunset Motel Grand Re-opening & Chamber of Commerce After Hours Party

The Sunset Motel Celebrates Grand Re-Opening

Yes, it’s true. The 55 year-old retro palace has been renovated, updated, gyrated and this owner is motivated and dedicated to making this little ole’ motor lodge boutique a thing of wonder. (What the heck was she thinking when she put all those flamingoes in the front lawn??!)

On April 9th at 4:30pm, the ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place on the front lawn (with the mingo herd as witness) followed by a Chamber Of Commerce party from 5:30-7pm (6pm surprise) where much silliness will prevail. Other local retro businesses will be on hand to add to the festivities; real bowling (Rockin’ Bowl), great food and an ice-cream float making counter and photo ops with the likes of Marilyn Monroe and Jimmy Dean (Rocky’s). Cameron Austin and his band will don their Blues Brothers attire and entertain while the wine & beer sipping crowd is surrounded by antique 50′s cars (Jerry Arnold & friends) and, of course, we’ll have some renovated guest rooms open for your viewing pleasure.

The public is invited for quick tours from 4:30-5:15pm.

I’d like to offer a huge thanks to my tremendously talented event planner and good friend Leigh Trapp and to business maven and friend Dee Dee Perkins for co-hosting this event and providing all the wonderful edibles. I could not have done this without you both.

Worried about a break-down on the road? Fab new gadget keeps you in-tune with your ride!

Yes, it’s true. This hot new toy is being presold for only $69.99 for delivery starting July 2013. What is it?  A revolutionary sophisticated gadget called Automatic Link that marries your smartphone (Droid/IPhone) to your car’s data port! The device  talks to your car’s onboard computer and uses your smartphone’s GPS and data plan to upgrade your car’s capabilities. Automatic works with just about any gasoline engine car sold in the United States since 1996. Read more below……………Automatic Link handson and test drive

It’s got the “OMG!-I’ve-wrecked-who’s-gonna-call-the-ambulance-and-my-momma?” wow factor

The Automatic Link has a built-in accelerometer than can detect crashes. It uses your phone’s data connection to report your crash to 911 with your name, location and vehicle description. Then, wait for it…….once help responds, this crazy thing can send a text message to your kin to let them know what happened, where you are and that help is a-comin’. (I’m betting in a year, this thing will also be able to order you a pizza while you wait for the body wagon!)

What else do it do that like you will?

Well, for one thing, it will tell you where you parked your TransCamero when you come out of the mall so you don’t look pathetic wandering around with your car clicker!

Also, Automatic learns about your driving style and gives you subtle audio cues when you do things that waste gas, like: rough braking, speeding and rapid acceleration. (I’m hoping it says something that will really break through the clutter of computer-voiced-over devices with something like “Yo, Idiot! Stop riding the brake with your left foot! We know that God gave you two feet but he meant for you to use one for the gas pedal and the other one to use to kick yourself upside the head for driving like a #!!#$@%!)

It will also tell you when something is amiss under the hood and stuff. I’m imagining a message like “There is the very slighest of leaks in your brake fluid but don’t panic. There is a long narrow field at the bottom of the hill you are currently approaching Mach1 on so you should be able to stop before you fly over the cliff beyond the field if you don’t catch a tail wind.”

After this, I know you want one for when you next travel to Brevard to stay at The Sunset Motel so click here Automatic Link  and arrive at our front door in one piece.

Disclaimer – some of the facts were taken directly off of the Automatic Link site. The conjecture and projections and dreams for the product are solely the product of my own warped mind.

Happy Retro Travel,

Lori
